Purpose of the Role:
STEEL ENGINEERS AND FABRICATORS LIMITED specialises in the manufacture and installation of commercial and residential wrought iron and wooden products for individual and commercial clients, including property developers. The company delivers bespoke steel fabrication and installation services including steel structures, gates, security gates, windows, platforms, ladders, handrails, and integrated wood-and-steel products.
The business currently operates through a physical retail outlet in Manchester and is expanding its commercial presence across multiple online sales channels including Amazon, eBay, and TikTok Shop.
To support this expansion, the company requires an experienced Business Development Manager to drive business growth across both traditional and digital markets. The role is responsible for identifying and securing new business opportunities, developing strategic partnerships, increasing client acquisition, strengthening customer relationships, and supporting revenue growth and brand positioning across retail, commercial, and e-commerce sectors.
The Business Development Manager will play a key role in expanding the company’s market presence, improving sales performance, and contributing to long-term commercial strategy through proactive business development, market analysis, and cross-platform growth initiatives.
Job Responsibilities:
- Business Growth & Client Acquisition:
- Identify and pursue new B2B clients, including UK and international Amazon/e-commerce sellers needing prep, warehousing, or fulfilment services.
- Develop sales pipelines through networking, lead generation, cold outreach, and referrals.
- Negotiate service agreements, pricing, and contract terms to maximise profitability.
- Maintain close contact with existing clients to ensure satisfaction, retention, and repeat business.
- Sales Strategy & Revenue Management:
- Design and implement short- and long-term sales strategies aligned with company growth targets.
- Analyse performance metrics (conversion rates, customer lifetime value, acquisition cost) to optimise sales activity.
- Monitor competitor pricing and market trends to adjust strategies dynamically.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly revenue forecasts for management review.
- Market Research & Business Intelligence:
- Conduct ongoing research into market trends, emerging e-commerce technologies, and logistics developments.
- Identify new sectors, regions, or services for expansion (e.g., B2B fulfilment, branded packaging solutions).
- Prepare business cases and feasibility reports for potential new service lines or partnerships.
- Partnership & Brand Development:
- Build and maintain partnerships with suppliers, shipping companies, packaging vendors, and online platform representatives.
- Represent Steel Engineers and Fabricators Ltd at trade shows, industry events, and business networks to raise brand awareness.
- Collaborate with marketing staff to design targeted promotional campaigns and strengthen online presence.
- Team & Operational Collaboration:
- Work closely with the warehouse, operations, and customer service teams to ensure client orders and prep services are delivered efficiently.
- Provide feedback from clients to improve internal processes and service quality.
- Support training and mentoring of sales assistants or junior staff.
- Reporting & Performance Monitoring:
- Produce detailed sales performance reports.
- Track KPIs such as client acquisition, retention, revenue growth, and profit margins.
- Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and profitability.
- Compliance & Professional Standards:
- Ensure all sales activities comply with company policies, contracts, GDPR, and UK commercial law.
- Maintain accurate CRM records and client documentation.
Person Specification:
- At least degree in Business.
- Proven experience in business development, sales, or client relationship management, ideally in e-commerce, retail, or logistics.
- Strong understanding of online marketplace platforms (Amazon, eBay, TikTok Shop) and e-commerce operations.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills with the ability to engage effectively with clients and partners.
- Experience in developing and implementing sales and marketing strategies to achieve revenue targets.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and commercial awareness.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work independently under pressure.
- Experience working with or providing services to Amazon FBA or other third-party sellers.
- Knowledge of supply chain processes, warehousing, and inventory management.
- Familiarity with CRM tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and data analytics software.
- Ability to contribute creatively to product development and brand positioning strategies.
